The Flow Book Review | “A Book That Takes Its Time: An Unhurried Adventure in Creative Mindfulness”

Yes to all the Flow books.  Seriously.

A couple weeks ago, I was at my happy place (ahem, the bookstore) when I came across a table with this book on top.  I wanted to squeal in delight, but since bookstores are generally calm, quiet places not-so-much-suited to loudmouths like myself… yet at the same time perfect for the introverted part of me… I casually said, “Oooooh, what’s this?”  I quickly flipped through it with my friend Kelsey and figured, what the hey-  I can get it for myself!  😉  So stinking glad I did!!!

As someone who is drawn to creativity, interactive books, journals, and inspirational articles, this book was made for me.  It contains page after page of pretty imagery, prompts for journaling, creative spaces that you are encouraged to fill in, all the while feeling like you’re taking care of yourself and your feelings and reflecting on the stuff that makes your heart happy…

Life is busy.  WE are busy.  Oftentimes, we go through the day just going, going, going, doing, doing, and by evening, we’re just flat out toast!  We kick our feet up, maybe enjoy some good old fashioned Netflixing, and then we snack, sleep, repeat.  Seems rather unhealthy when you step back and look at our busy lifestyles, right?

I know “the busyness of life” is kind of a loaded topic and for a different time, but in some ways, this book is an eye-opener on how we’ve let hustle & bustle replace the slow steady race to the finish line- you know, the pace that still allows you to stop and smell the flowers along the way.  It doesn’t fix the problem, but it at least addresses it.  And not by merely telling you but instead by showing you just how good it feels to sit down with a cup o’ joe while quietly flipping through a couple pages of a beautiful prompt-filled creative journal of sorts that will literally make you want to slow things down, even for just 10 minutes a day.

It encourages things like sending some love through snail mail or going back to the basics and having fun painting cute designs on smooth stones or driftwood…

There are stickers and pretty papers and spaces to make a collage…
And although I’ve had this for two weeks, I haven’t even scratched the surface of all this book holds.

Literally couldn’t love it more!  And I wanted to share it with you because I think it would make an incredible gift.  For a friend, a mother, a sister, or yes, yourself.
