It’s that time of the year again… the time I go through my entire house and find some way to redo all of the spaces until they perk me up again. (I think it’s because I spend far too long staring at them nonstop throughout the long winter.)
My craft room/loft is one of the places where I need to constantly change things up in order to stay inspired to create… I’ve actually been told many times recently by my fellow creatives that they do the same thing. Whew! I’m not alone. 😉
I don’t exactly have a before picture, but I can tell you what the loft looked like prior to us moving in. Green carpet, orange half-walls, floral cushion on the storage bench…
I saw the potential of this beautiful room with a window that not only overlooks the Great Room below, but also overlooks our entire front property because of the super big window in the front of our house. It’s a cool place… just needed a little work. 🙂
That being said, I got rid of the old floral pillow on top of the bench and replaced it with my own throw pillows that not only brighten up the room but make me smile a little every time I walk in. (Seriously, though.. that giraffe.) I also recently made that bundle of tissue paper pom poms… or flowers. Whatever you want to call them. I just call it cute. 😉
Last summer I repainted the orange walls white, so now it’s bright and happy in there. I also repainted my desk mustard yellow a while back, and my craft table I recently took some black chalk paint to.
As for the green carpet… yeah, it’s still there. I’m too lazy to start tearing up carpet, especially when there are much more important things to get done in our home. But I threw a fun (and cheap) gray and white chevron rug over it and moved on. 🙂
I admittedly have a lot of craft supplies, although not nearly as much as some people I’ve seen! haha! Either way, I needed some storage cubbies to contain all of it. I’ve had this black one the longest- since we lived in Virginia. It has somehow survived 3 moves despite being cheap particle board, and it’s still kicking. I wanted to cover up some of the scratches in it, so I took a $1 roll of contact paper & covered up the top and some of the cubbies.
And yes, that’s also turquoise washi tape along the edges just to give it some color. Fun thing about washi tape is that it comes off very easily, so I can switch it out when I inevitably get sick of it. 😉
On the other side of the room, I got more storage units- this time in bright white. I picked up a few plastic trays at Dollar Tree to organize my supplies, too.
I recently have acquired a lot of fun vintage books, board game boxes, etc. So I knew I wanted to display them in this room somehow. This was the perfect place.
I recently purchased some fun vintage board game pieces (to use in a junk journal) from GT Designs on Etsy, and Renee (who is totally sweet and super generous, by the way!!) mailed them all to me in this box! I about died when I saw it! I knew it would be the best addition to my cute vintage craft room decor. How did she know?! 😀
… and the books I found at the thrift store a couple years ago. Crazy cute.
Lastly, Nadia and I had to go to Michael’s last week, and while we were there, I saw some Heidi Swapp Marquee’s on sale for just a couple dollars. Naturally, I had to get one with the letter M and an N for Nadia. 😉 I haven’t decorated it much yet… just put a pink bow on top, but I’ll do that later on. I also saw a super cute book cut into the letter H on sale, too, so using all the coupons they would allow, I picked one up for a much less price because…. well, it’s an H. For Hancher. Made out of a book!! Obviously, that had my name written all over it, right? 😉
Funny thing about re-doing this room is that I’m finding I tend to keep it much cleaner now… possibly because I appreciate the time it took to make it mine. Does that make sense? Of course, I didn’t take over the entire loft all for me. Nadia and Dana join me in here often- although, as you can imagine, Dana couldn’t possibly care less about the cute puffy tissue paper pom pom’s and bows all over the place. 😉 In fact, it took him 5 days to even notice they were there… and that was after me pointing it all out. LOL!
What do you do to spruce up your creative space??? (P.s. I’ll be showing my mood board/inspiration wall in another post because that’s part of this room, as well.)
