‘Tis the Season…

June 4, 2017

For watermelons, that is.  😉

Yesterday, we busted out the tiller, shovel, plastic sheeting, and watermelon plants and got to work.  If you followed along with my watermelon growing adventures last year, you’ll know that we started the season killing the plants, but somewhere along the way –ahem, when I stopped touching them– little melons started to grow.  Then eventually, they grew so big that we had at least 30 big {and ridiculously delicious} watermelons to eat and share!  Our largest melon grew to be over 30 pounds.  Crazy!  But anyways, here we are again…

This year, we decided to expand our garden, and use the front yard, too.  I wasn’t keen on the idea at first, but we do have a lot of space we can use, so we might as well take advantage of using areas that are a little more convenient for watering and growing.  And since watermelons need a TON of sunlight, we gotta use whatever areas get the most during the day.  So front yard, it is.  😉

My favorite thing is how excited Nadia gets to help us!  She did a great job planting them with her daddy.  I swear, I helped.  I just paused to take a few photos cause you know I can’t help myself.  😉

Last thing I did was help Nadia plant her own wildflower garden.  Not only do we need bees around the watermelons to pollinate the flowers, but you know- #savethebees.  It’s important, y’all.  🙂

In our backyard garden, we’ll be planting the yellow squash, bell peppers, and broccoli… and hopefully, we’ll have an abundance like we did last year so we can share it with our neighbors, friends, and heck, maybe our family will be surprised to receive a Priority Mail box of veggies.  LOL!  😉

Let gardening season commence!

XOXO, Marybeth
