Apparently today is Autism Awareness Day. You might think I'd keep up with things like that, but (not to sound too cynical) I've learned over the years that people either care to be "aware" or... well, they don't. I've also learned from not only speaking to but LISTENING to adults WHO ARE ON the autism spectrum that organizations that claim to be on their side aren't exactly that friendly towards them. I typically don't like to stir the pot, but when it comes to my daughter(s) and those who need us to use our voices for them, I have no hesitation. We'll show support today and every day towards our autism community, but I stand firm with my beliefs that while we have definite struggles to engage in a society that share a different language, so to speak, our beautiful ASD family around the globe needs us to understand one thing- THEY DO NOT WANT OR NEED TO BE "FIXED." Trust me, I am not naive or ignorant of the fact that children like Nadia have less outward struggles than those who are fighting to break language barriers amongst many other things. However, I do not show and will never publicly share some of our own daily battles because it is not only inappropriate but incredibly unkind to do to my very real person of a daughter. Regardless of where everyone has landed on the spectrum, I have heard the outcry of those being made to feel less than simply because they don't fit a man-made mold of how a person "should" think, act, do. The research, the articles and scare tactics of vaccines + autism, the "cures".... It's offensive on so many levels. And until people can understand that, having an "awareness" day means very little to people like us. Nadia said it best the other week (and I actually wrote an entire speech about it for an event I was supposed to speak at prior to its cancellation): "I like me." I like me. Yeah. I like you, too, girlfriend.Today we're *supposed* to dress in blue. She chose green. I said "Atta girl." Wear whatever color you want. It's okay to rebel a little even against those who are supposed to be your own people. 😉 I'm proud to be her mother and forever grateful I have the honor to fight the good fight alongside her. ❤

I haven't had the moments to dive into my art jour

I haven't had the moments to dive into my art journal lately, but this morning I forced it. Gave myself 10 minutes to just be free and play. She's not perfect (I mean, those eyes could belong to two separate faces 🤣🤦‍♀️) but she's all I needed at this moment. Something about sketching out a quick, oftentimes quirky, female face feels right in my soul. Thankful for quiet Sundays like this. ❤

Can we just talk for a minute about zen/meditation

Can we just talk for a minute about zen/meditation boards???? Easily one of my favorite things ever. I keep one in our kitchen because, let's be real, I spend A LOT of time in there. So while I'm boiling water or waiting for my coffee to be reheated for the 5th time 🤣🤦‍♀️ or simply walking through on my way to the Great Room, I pick up the paintbrush and create a very quick but super enjoyable picture. Sometimes I just write a name or give thanks with a heart. As a perfectionist who highly critiques her every brush stroke when it's done on paper, this is such a necessary tool for me to unwind. Pressure is off... the drawing is just going to disappear in a minute or 2 anyways. 😉 It's waaaaay relaxing and honestly, we all love it- especially Nadia. Anything art related for us that is reusable and relaxing is a total win in my book. This isn't an ad. 🤣 I don't do that. But this is me saying that if you're even curious about these, it's worth checking out. Perhaps I'll share my disappearing art on here more often. Sometimes I swear it turns out better than the things I take far too long to create in my art journals... probably because I do THIS without so much care or criticism. ❤

Weeks back- before, well, everything- I snapped these photos of Tashie simply because she looked far too cute playing in her colorful bedroom in her new rainbow onesie that my sister mailed her. (Thanks, Steph!!! 😘) Yesterday I learned that there's a movement sweeping across Europe where people are hanging rainbows in their windows as a sign of hope during these difficult days. Let's All Be Well, they say. Today I'm sharing these with the same message of endurance, reaching across the globe and sending love to all of my precious people, no matter if we've met or not. We're in this together. The girls and I will spread the love here in the U.S. by hanging our own rainbows in our windows, too. Hold onto hope, friends. And yes, let's all be well. ❤🌈 #letsallbewell

We had music today, and I busted out the guitar my parents got me when I was 16. The girls loved it, and I discovered that I could one day have a career writing inappropriate songs for children. 🤣

Thankful that "church" isn't a building and worshi

Thankful that "church" isn't a building and worship comes in many forms. We spent the morning ushering in the Holy Spirit in our own way with the @elevationchurch eFAM, and it was beautiful and sweet and enriching and everything that is right and real in a time when everything else feels foreign and uncertain. Grateful for online services and the miracle of having access to a church family from 600 miles away. ❤
